Facebook is at it again
making changes to how the personal profile pages work. This time they are experimenting with a timeline format. Eye Track Shop compared how users viewed the old and new layouts.
- Viewers notice the large, cover image first but still spend more time looking at the profile photo.
- More viewers (63%) noticed the sponsored stories in the new timeline format than did in the old layout (43%).
- Viewers spent more time (2.2 seconds) looking at the personal information (employer, location, etc.) in the new timeline than they did in the old format (1.6 seconds). This could be due to the new format using images.

Although the data appears to make the new format more effective
opinions are polarized. Some love it
others hate it. As with all Facebook changes, it is generally just a matter of time until we all end up accepting it. The good news for those not in love with the new layout is that Facebook has yet to decide if they will make the new format mandatory or permanent.
